“Resistance is Futile”

How do you act around people who don’t like Star Trek? My advice, follow the prime directive and don’t interact with underdeveloped species. Star Trek is one of the greatest shows to ever be created, and I am not just saying that because I am a Trekkie. Ask anyone with decent taste. There are so many reasons this show is insanely good, a few of the factors that make it such are it’s extensive material, deep plots, and characters. The only way you could ever fully understand my great love is if we mind melded. tumblr_inline_mmi7wj9JQr1qz4rgpIf you don’t already love Star Trek, then this post is meant to give you the kick in the rear to go watch it.

In Star trek there is enough material to last a life time, with 703 episodes and 13 movies, it would take 546 hours to watch them all, that’s 23 days straight. So I’ll bring the snacks and you grab the catheters. If that’s not enough, there are hundreds of books. Who needs fanfiction when you have that much canon? Sick of hiatus, Star Trek is for you. I am a huge Star Trek fan and I’ll be honest with you I haven’t finished all the episodes…yet. The Original Series and Next Generation conquered, Deep Space Nine and Voyager very nearly defeated, and Enterprise…well, we haven’t met yet.

Star Trek was before it’s time, and dealt with issues that were controversial and difficult, showing different opinions and views, admitting to the complexity of life. Roddenberry the creator of Star Trek takes issues and makes you face them in new and creative ways. In his pilot episode his second in command was a women, the studio and producer said it would never fly and if he wanted to air, then he better rewrite it, so he did putting the stoic Vulcan in the place of second in command, and then he did something amazing and unheard of for his time he added an African American woman as his communications officer.

Uhura
Martin Luther King Jr. to the actress of Uhura: “You don’t have a black role.
You have an equal role.”

How can you not at the very least love Roddenberry for that.  It’s successors continue this tradition of pushing boundaries, with episodes that deal with suicide, sexuality, the role of genders, what it means to really be human, and what qualifies someone as such, is it flesh and blood, or heart. Data makes that question so relevant and complicated, and man I love this show.

If that isn’t enough for you, you are given a group of some of the most iconic characters, who are fabulous to boot.

giphy-4Kirk, an unflappable charismatic Captain, who can’t keep his shirt on.

MyCoy, a grumpy Southern space doctor, who hates space.

Spock and his gosh darn logic

Spock, a stoic half vulcan ruled by logic, and faced with emotion by all those around him.

giphy-6

Picard, a morally rigid man, who tries to do what’s right in an imperfect and complex world.

An android who is entirely too relatable

Data an android trying to be human.

My favorite of all, Kathryn Janeway, a woman who commands respect, adores coffee, and can sass like nobodies business. She is my hero.

And don’t even get me started on all the fabulously diverse aliens and cultures that come with them. Vulcans, Klingons, Borg, the Q, Tribbles, Cardassians, Romulans, Bajorans, Ferengi, and Andorians, to name a few. Oh and we can’t forget the real hero of Star Trek… the redshirts.tkfv5

Star Trek is a show about the best of humanity, exploring the world, motivated by science, and open to all the possibilities space has to offer. It has enough content to last forever, plots that are controversial and thought provoking, and characters that are complex and lovable. If you truly give it a try all I can say about liking it is, resistance is futile.

You can’t say no to this man.

Writing is something I have always loved, and I plan on doing it till my fingers fall off. I am a Trekkie, and a Whovian. Tolkien is my master of Fantasy, I love the Supernatural family, Asimov my lord of Sci-Fi, Wilde the commander of wit. One Punch Man sets me off into hysterical giggles and Marvel stands at the top, with all my heroes present. "I super believe in you, Tad Cooper" -Galavant

    1. Next gen is amazing!! There are defiantly some episodes I did not enjoy in the original just like most shows there are a few episodes I could do with out. But I adore the vast majority of them!
